1 Dead, 1 Arrested as Police Responds to Robbery Incident

PRO 12, General Santos City– One (1) died and One (1) was injured and eventually arrested after exchanged of fire with the responding police officers in a robbery incident at Barangay Dadiangas Heights, General Santos City.

A 29-year-old Harlene Escobia  Jalagpas, single and a resident of #12 Nickel St., Toledo Subd., Brgy City Heights, General Santos reported to Police Station 4 that she was a victim of a robbery holdup incident transpired at Toledo Subd., Brgy City Heights, General Santos City on October 5, 2019 at around 7:00 o’clock in the evening.

According to the victim, while she was walking along the subdivision road she was held up by two suspects at gunpoint who forcibly took her mobile phone then fled towards Brgy San Isidro, General Santos City onboard a motorcycle.

Operatives of Police Station 4, who at that time conducting stakeout operation near the area, immediately responded and tracked the suspect along Maria Teresa St. Brgy San Isidro, General Santos City.

The suspects instead of stopping, the back rider (later identified as Jury Navida Magbanua) draw his handgun and fired towards the lawmen. This prompted the authorities to trade shot with the suspects.

During the exchange of fire, the suspects were wounded and were immediately brought by the police officers to the nearest hospital. However, Jury Navida Magbanua was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician for the gunshot wound on his body while his companion named Denmark Bolivar Espin is presently was confined for the gunshot wound on his hand.

The two suspects were positively identified by the victim. Recovered from the two were one (1) cal. 38 revolver and one (1) cal. 45 pistol  with one magazine assembly loaded with ammunition  and the one (1) unit mobile phone that belongs to the victim.

Subject firearms will be submitted to PNP Crime Laboratory for examination while charges are being prepared against Espin.

General Santos City Police Office is also investigating the involvement of Magbanua and Espin on the recent robbery incidents within the city.
