34 divers in Cugman receive DOLE-10 livelihood fishing project

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-10 Cagayan de Oro City Field Office (CDO FO) Chief Emmanuel G. Toledo turned over the Integration Livelihood Program (DILP) Fishing Project to 34 active members of the Cugman Divers Association, August 29.

“Halos nawad-an mi ug paglaum sukad nga niabot ang pandemya, ang among panginabuhian apektado kaayo ug lisod kaayo ang pagpangita ug trabaho kay daghan nagsira nga mga establisemento ug kompanya. Gi-antos namo nga mangisda bisan kulang sa gamit para lang makakaon ang among pamilya,” Benjie Mangubat, president of Cugman Divers Association, said.

(We almost lost hope when this pandemic affected our means of livelihood. It is very difficult to look for jobs since many establishments have closed. We endured fishing despite the lack of proper tools and equipment as long as we could make end meets with our family)

Cugman Divers Association was organized three years ago and registered with DOLE, April 2021 with the goal of creating self-help project that would benefit the members.

Majority of them are volunteers of the Bantay Dagat, a group that oversees the operation of fish sanctuary in the area and police the seashore against any illegal fishing activities.

The group was endorsed by the chairperson of the City Government of Cagayan de Oro Councilor for Labor and Employment Girlie Balaba for assistance to the DILP, which DOLE approved the proposed fishing project amounting to P242,125.

“Dako kaayo among pasalamat sa DOLE-10 nga gihatagan kami niiing duha ka motorized bangka aron mapasayon ug magapadayon kami sa pagpangisda nga dili na moabang pa sa uban. Masiguro na namo nga makanunayon na ang among pagpanagat ug dili na kami mu-abang pa og bangka pinaagi niini nga project,” Mangubat said.

(Our immense gratitude to DOLE-10 for granting two motorized fishing boats, which will make our jobs easier, especially that we will not rent them anymore. We could ensure continued and sustained fishing activities)

Toledo reminded the beneficiary-organization to optimize the use of the bangkas to increase their income so that every family will have food on their tables. He encouraged all members to actively participate in the project and ensure that the project will fully achieve its objectives.

“Ang DOLE-10 kanunayong musuporta sa mga benepisyaryo sa DILP aron mapalambo ang proyekto. Kung makita sa among buhatan nga maayo ug nilambo ang proyekto, kami dili magdumili sa pagdugang niini sa umaabot nga mga tuig,” Toledo said.

(DOLE-10 continually supports the DILP beneficiaries in the project’s growth. If our office will see that there is increase in the profit of the project, we would not hesitate to add assistance in the years to come

The DILP is a component of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP), which seeks to provide employment opportunities to the informal sectors through creation of projects/small business and providing assistance in the forms of materials, equipment, jigs, tools and operating capital.
