96 houses damaged in Tudela whirlwind

TUDELA, Misamis Occidental (PIA)—The sudden occurrence of strong twisting winds in Tudela affected 96 houses of which 73 are from Barangay Basirang, Sebac (13), Upper Centro (9), and Centro Napo (3) at Around 4:30pm, August 5.

The incident destroyed trees, some of which landed along the highway, and damaged houses and electrical power poles.

An elementary school can no longer be used and several government buildings were affected.

Such also caused a 24-hour brownout in Barangay Basirang and Sebac, Tudela.

Tudela Mayor Samuel Parojinog said the local government unit has distributed a half sack of rice per family and will further give shelter assistance with a total budget of P1.5 million to the affected families.

Parojinog added that the affected families from Barangay Basirang, Sebac, Upper Centro, and Centro Napo are now living with their families and relatives.

In his post, Governor Philip Tan said, “The province of Misamis Occidental together with Deputy Speaker Henry Oaminal and the LGU of Tudela headed by Mayor Samuel Parojinog will discuss matters on how we can be of help.”

The governor also encouraged nongovernment organizations, individuals, private companies, and government agencies to help the affected families.
