Adiong says infra dev’t a foundation of local economy

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)–Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr. is optimistic that the province’s economic growth is assured with the completed construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure projects in the province which are now fully functional.

Adiong stated during his final State of the Province Address (SOPA) Thursday, August 5, that for the past years, the province strived to carry out the economic growth through infrastructure development as he recognized that such is really a major factor in development.

“Batid nating lahat na ang mga imprastraktura ay nagsisilbing pundasyon sa ating lokal na ekonomiya. Kinaya nating pagtibayin at palaguin ang pundasyong ito,” he said.

[We are all aware that the infrastructures serve as the foundation of our local economy. We were able to strengthen and nurture this foundation.]

Adiong bared that it was through the breakthrough initiative called Building Opportunities for a Meaningful Bangsamoro Inclusive Town (BOMBIT) Program that model barangay government centers were aimed to be instituted and six pilot barangays were established demonstrating functioning governance and administration to increase barangay local revenue.

This also became the means for underlying projects to be finished such as concreting of farm-to-market roads in the municipalities of Wao, Amai Manabilang, and Tamparan and installation of 19-unit solar-powered street lights. On the other hand, two of the program’s projects are still ongoing, including a farm-to-market road in the municipality of Malabang and a water unit in the municipality of Kapatagan.

The Marawi Transcentral Road completes its contract packages 1B and 2 under the effort of the provincial government of Lanao del Sur in partnership with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and support from international communities like Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Adiong further shared other projects were implemented through signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with concerned local government units such as installation of street and integrated solar lights, acquisition of garbage truck, construction of multi-purpose, executive and rehabilitation buildings, 15-unit passenger sheds, municipal sports complex and perimeter fencing for a government center, and concreting and upgrading of municipal and provincial roads.

Also under the existing agreements, other projects continue to progress including expansion of the water system, and construction of 202 water and sanitation facilities, 17 evacuation centers, multi-purpose buildings, grouted riprap, municipal roads, and a public attorney’s office.

Adiong said the 18.97-kilometer Marawi transcentral road, which is part of the national government’s reconstruction and development plan, have completed its contract packages 1B and 2 in partnership with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) with support from international communities like the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

He further said that the province also partakes in the construction of permanent shelters in Brgy. Mipantao Gadongan and transitory shelters in Brgy. Rorogagus with the Tzu Chi Foundation.

As more projects are still advancing, the province of Lanao del Sur stays relentless to secure a more boosted economic growth they ever envisioned. (CRG/PIA-ICIC)
