ALORAN, Misamis Occidental (PIA)—The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Aloran celebrated the Linggo ng Kabataan 2021 to use the skills and creativity of the young people as they divert their attention from the current pandemic.

“Kini dako kaayo og matabang sa ila kay ang ilang personal skills ug creativity nadevelop ug maayo,” Aloran Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President Ace John Mutia said.

As for the Linggo ng Kabataan activity, Mutia shares that they are thankful and happy because the youth are participating in their program eventhough it was just virtually done. “Ang mga activities nga among gibuhat sa Linggo ng Kabataan mao ang poster making, tiktok challenge competition, mobile photography ug among gi-apil ang face mask ug face shield design contest kay karon among gihatagan ug importansya tungod sa pandemic,” he said.

(One of the activities we did during the Linggo ng Kabataan were poster making, tiktok challenge competition, mobile photography and we included the face mask and face shield design contest because we gave importance to it due to this pandemic)

Mutia emphasized that the youth should continue with their desires and aspirations despite the pandemic that they are facing.

“Padayon sa unsa ilang kalipay ug kini dili babag kung ilang dawaton sa ilang kaugalingon nga kita aduna’y kapasidad nga magmatarong, makatabang ug makahimo ug kaayuhan sa atong lugar. Mahimo unta kita nga kasangkapan sa kalinaw ug dili sa kagubot,” the SK president said.

(They should continue doing what makes them happy. It (pandemic) is not a hindrance if they accept for themselves that we have the capacity to be righteous, helpful and to do good in our area. We should be instruments of peace and not of chaos)

Mutia also highlighted the International Association of Youth and Students for Peace-Philippines (IAYSP) Misamis Occidental Chapter saying that the goal of this group is to help young people who have the potential to pursue the desire for peace. So they involve in these kinds of projects.

He added that the advantages of this organization is to give them more opportunity to improve their self through public speaking, peace project making and other programs that they have created at IAYSP.

As part of their IAYSP program, the advocacy of the federation of Aloran is to focus on their brand project. They conducted the Billion trees project, coastal clean-up, and the rally of hope.

(Even in this time of pandemic, let us not forget our environment because it helps us in our daily lives. We trained the young people and we help them to become peace advocates. They themselves reveal that they want to help and to be an instrument of peace in their community, in their barangay, municipality, and in their home. IAYSP is a very big help in their personal growth in the community). (SMRN/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
