Army’s 82IB donates food packs to stranded workers in Marawi City amid COVID-19

MARAWI CITY — Responding to a call for help, troops of the Alpha Company, 82nd Infantry (Bantay Laya) Battalion (82IB) of the Philippine Army donated food packs to thirty-five (35) stranded construction workers in this city.

The stranded workers are all from Butuan City, Agusan del Norte who failed to exit Lanao del Sur when the province was placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) on March 17 to April 14, 2020, and was further placed under Extended Enhanced Community Quarantine (EECQ) until April 30, 2020.

The construction workers tried to survive each day with all the wages and savings left but not for too long because their families at home also rely on them.

With this, the troops under 1LT Jaafar D. Abdul, Commanding Officer of Alpha Company, 82IB, assisted the stranded laborers by providing them with food and other necessary assistance while their travel clearance going back to Butuan City is being worked on.

Furthermore, initial coordination with the Lanao del Sur Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of COVID-19 has already been made by 82IB to facilitate the transport of said stranded construction workers back to their hometown.

The 82nd Infantry Battalion is committed to serve wherever and whenever there is a need, especially in this coronavirus disease crisis. (82IB/PIA ICIC)
