ASF affects 7 towns in MisOr – PVO

MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA)–The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Misamis Oriental reported that seven municipalities and 30 barangays in the province have been affected by African Swine Fever (ASF) disease.

“We have Opol, El Salvador City, Alubijid, Laguindingan, Libertad, Initao and Manticao are infected already. A total of seven municipalities and 30 barangays are affected by ASF,”  Dr. Benjamin Resma, provincial veterinarian said.

Resma also cited the three main reasons the ASF can be spread – swill feeding, illegal movement of sick pig, and use of contaminated vehicles.

With this, he said, it is important that each local government units must take part in safeguarding their areas against ASF.

“LGUs are encouraged to put up a functional animal checkpoint in every barangay border to minimize illegal movement of hogs and products,” Resma said.

As of now, there are 1,939 hogs culled affecting 466 farmers in the province.

The municipalities and barangays affected are Opol: Malanang (Sitio Nahulugan & Sitio Mansilop) and Bagocboc (Sitio Naculian); El Salvador City: Hinigdaan (Purok 6,2,3),  Kalabaylabay (Purok 2), Sinaloc (Purok 7), San Francisco de Asis (Purok 7), Ulaliman (Purok 5), Cogon (Puork 4 and 7) and Himaya (Purok 7); Alubijid: Baybay (Purok 8), Benigwayan (P3);

Calatcat (Purok 2 and 3), Lanao (Purok 1,3,7), Loguilo (Purok 5A), Lumbo (Purok 4,7,9), Poblacion (Purok 7,8,9), Sampatulog (Purok 2), and Sungay; Laguindigan: Kibaghot (Purok 8), Poblacion (Purok 12), and Gasi (Purok 1 Upper); Libertad: Sto Nino (Purok 3 and 4); Initao: Apas (Purok 1), Jampason (Purok 5), Oguis (Purok 4 and Sta. Cruz), Tawantawan (Sitio Dulog), and Kanitoan (Purok 3); and Manticao: Pagawan (Purok 1), Digkilaan (Purok 4), and Cabalantian (Purok Paradise II). (JAKA/PIA10)
