Beyond Telco: How Globe is re-focusing for the new customer

DAVAO CITY – It is clear that the digital economy is changing our lives at an unprecedented pace. With Covid-19, it has only rapidly accelerated the importance of digital connectivity to ensure that work, education, and living continue despite people being more home-based.

Peter Maguera, Senior Vice President for Globe Business, Enterprise Group said, Philippines has the potential to be a regional hub for data centers in terms of digital infrastructure.

Maguera during his presentation cited the state of the Information Communications Technology (ICT) market said that 9 in 10 new digital consumers intend to continue using digital services in the Philippines. He added that the private sector has historically been investing in digital infrastructure, and the revenue models are robust. Given these figures, he said that “The Pandemic is the great accelerator of digital.”

Maguera also cited some of the successes and the insightful lessons on how the private sector successfully financed digital infrastructure. He cited the growth of video chatting application Zoom when it only had 20 Million subscribers in December 2019 but zoomed to 300 million subscribers when the Pandemic hit. In the Philippines, he cited Union Bank where more than half of their transactions are on-line.
