Brgy 1, CDO assures support to gov’t programs

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–Enumerating accomplishments and ongoing programs and activities in Barangay 1, here, Barangay Chair Anthony Abejuela said they fully support the government’s programs on anti-illegal drugs, environmental care, and COVID-19 response.

Intensifying the anti-illegal drug campaign, Abejuela said during the CORDS-X Podcast with Communications Sec. Martin Andanar, November 13, that they conducted a profiling of possible clients among drug dependents as well as they are among the clustered barangays in the city that will contribute resources for the community-based rehabilitation program.

“About mga 56 ka mga drug surrenderees that underwent community-based rehabilitation program though wala gyud tanan nakagradwit, I think there was about 10% of it ang wala nakagradwit but most of them nakahuman gayud sa ato nga programa,” Abejuela said.

On the ecological solid waste management program, Abejuela said they implement the ‘Plastic Storm’ where they exchange a kilo of rice to a kilo of plastic waste turned over to the barangay.

“We are still ongoing ang atong pagpasabot ang atong information and educational campaign sa mga tao because kung imong tan-awon, it entails changing the mindset sa atong katawhan to make waste segregation as a way of life,” he added.

They also partnered with other local government units (LGUs) like Barangay Kauswagan, which has the equipment such as a shredder that is used to grind compostable materials into organic fertilizers.

Abejuela added that such equipment is helpful noting that they have a good amount of compostable materials since the main source of livelihood of the people in the barangay is selling of flowers.

COVID-19 vax rollout

“Pag-rollout sa vaccination daghan gyud ang hesitant kay mao lage na, mahadlok plus katong mga istorya-istorya nga naa’y side effect, nga mahimo sila nga mazombie ang tao but nonetheless, gikampanya nato ang advantage of having the vaccination sa COVID-19,” Abejuela said.

(In the vaccination rollout, a lot of people are really hesitant because they are scared of the side effects including the possibility that they might become zombies. But still, we continue to campaign the advantages of the having the vaccination on COVID-19)

Currently, more than 50% of the barangay’s population availed the vaccination. Noting the decreasing number of COVID-19 cases in Cagayan de Oro City, Abejuela said such has encouraged their residents to avail the vaccine and further aid in the economic recovery of the city.

“Sa atong mga katawhan, akong hangyo nga suportahan nato ang kampanya sa gobyerno tungod kay kung unsa ang mga programa, proyekto sa gobyerno, kani para ra sad sa kaayuhan sa tanan,” Abejuela said.

(To our people, I am asking you to please support the campaigns of the government because the programs, projects of the government are all created for the welfare of everyone). (RTP/PIA-10)
