Camiguin is now COVID-free, guv says

CAMIGUIN (PIA)–With the coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 confirmed patient now declared by the Department of Health (DOH) negative with the disease, Gov. Jurdin Jesus Romualdo announced that “Camiguin is now COVID-free,” April 17.

In a live video feed via social media, Romualdo added that the person under investigation (PUI) from Poblacion, Mambajao, who was brought to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) in Cagayan de Oro, has also tested negative of the disease.

For persons under monitoring (PUMs) recorded, Mambajao has 28; Mahinog, 7; Guinsilban, 2; Sagay, 3 and Catarman 3. There is only now a total of 43 PUMs in the province.

“Dili pasabot ana nga kampante ta. The more ta nga magbantay, ma-istrikto nga imaintain nga limpyo ang Camiguin (This does not mean that we become complacent. Now there is a greater need to be vigilant, strict in maintaing the cleanliness of Camiguin),” Romualdo said.

For temporary relief of families whose incomes are greatly affected by the Preemptive Community Quarantine, Romualdo recognized various programs of the government and aid including the vegetable seeds from the Department of Agriculture (DA), financial asssistance from the Department of Labor and Employment, and other grants.

As for the Social Amelioration Package (SAP) in the province, Melody Ribo of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Camiguin said the regional office has allocated budget for 21,869 households including the 5,782 Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries. Last week, the payout for the 4Ps beneficiaries was already completed.

Of the P6,000 SAP assistance for 4Ps beneficiaries, P1,350 is credited for the month of April covering the health grant and rice subsidy and P4,650 for the SAP.

For the social pensioners, some beneficiaries of the 6,804 listed names will be deleted because there were spouses included and DSWD will only allow one member of the household to receive such grant.  Scheduled next week for the payout, the social pensioners will receive P3,000 for the grant good for six months and P3,000 for the SAP. Each senior citizen listed by the DSWD will be receiving a total of P6,000.

“Hopefully, i-sustain nato nga COVID-free ang Camiguin. We will celebrate pag muabot na ang vaccines. There’s nothing you can do as of now but to stay at home,” Romualdo said. (RTP/PIA10)
