Camiguin tightens measure on livestock, poultry product entry

CAMIGUIN, (PIA)—Due to some individuals who allegedly smuggled livestock and poultry and by products in the province, Provincial Governor Jurdin Jesus Romualdo implemented outright confiscation or mandatory return to place of origin of the smuggled items, March 17.

Under the Executive Order No. 14 series of 2020, livestock and poultry, pet animals, meat, meat products and by products will be confiscated or returned to place of origin if the shipper cannot provide proper and appropriate shipping documents.

Stringent checkpoint in all ports of entries are set up to check all kinds of incoming vehicles to see presence of smuggled items.
To prevent further inconvenience in the part of the shipper, this order shall be disseminated to all municipal mayors, barangay captains, and all concerned stakeholders.

The provincial government will be coordinating with Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Ports Authority and other government agencies to carry out the order.

This prohibition is due to the emergence of African Swine Fever (ASF), bird flu, and other livestock diseases as well as rabies threat. (Marc Ian A. Salem /PIA10)
