CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–A 44-year-old female from Barangay Agusan, here, who works as a cashier of a private company, tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID)-19, which brings the city’s confirmed cases to 27.
City Epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya said the company held its own rapid diagnostic testing (RDT), June 13, where five of its employees yielded positive results, June 16. While housed in the company’s isolation facility, the five employees underwent the swab testing where the 44-year-old cashier was tested positive through reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) at the Northern Mindanao TB Reference Center.
For the last two weeks prior to RDT, the cashier has contacted with their agents from Davao and Zamboanga, as she received the latter’s remittances. Thus, the city coordinated with the local government units of the said agents to monitor their conditions and obtain reports of possible COVID-19 symptoms.
Reutya said the patient is currently housed in the city isolation unit while her four direct contact family members are advised to undergo quarantine since June 18.
For security and prevention of discriminatory activities, the city placed one block of Barangay Agusan on focus containment from June 18 to July 2. Such may be extended to July 8 if new confirmed cases will surface.
As of June 23, there are 27 confirmed COVID-19 cases recorded here of which 1 is admitted, 11 are asymptomatic, 9 have recovered, and 6 have expired. In the region, there are 84 confirmed cases of which 52 are returning individuals from Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, CDO, and Iligan City. (RTP/PIA10)
