CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental (PIA)–Jackie Ann S. Sagabal, 23, from Claveria town thanked the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-10 after graduating recently with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering at the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) – Claveria as a scholar-beneficiary under the Workers Organization Development Program’s Isabelo Delos Reyes (WODP-IDR) Scholarship.
“WODP taught me to persevere and be optimistic in life which I believe will help me as I enter the world of work,” Sagabal said.
DOLE-10 Misamis Oriental Provincial Field Office Chief Errol A. Natividad said Sagabal’s mother, Gemma Salcedo was a member of Agrotech Workers Association, which made her qualified under the said program.
Despite financial challenges, Sagabal persevered to continue her studies and maintain good grades to finish her degree, her journey as a student was never easy especially for boarding, school, and personal expenses.
As one of DOLE’s mission to protect workers and promote their welfare, the WODP serves as a facilitating mechanism in strengthening trade unions and other workers’ organizations while also providing educational opportunities to officers and members including their dependents for self-development, growth, and be an effective change agent in their organization and in their personal lives.
“I am very thankful to DOLE-10 and to the people behind my scholarship, especially to Ma’am Alice Tinhay, who readily answers my queries regarding the scholarship; and to Chief Natividad, thru the leadership of Regional Director Albert E. Gutib, who opened doors for educational opportunities. I have not made this far without their help by granting me as one of the scholar-beneficiaries.
