DepEd Iligan conveys support for pediatric vaccination

ILIGAN CITY (PIA)–Following the launching of the pediatric vaccination at Iligan City National High School (ICNHS) on Monday, November 8, the Department of Education (DepEd) – Iligan conveyed its firm support in giving minors aged 12 to 17 years old coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 vaccine shots to attain herd immunity here.

DepEd-Iligan Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Roy Angelo Gazo stressed that the vaccination of minors is a promise and action focusing on the youth so that everyone will return to their normal lives.

“Ang vaccination sa mga kabataan aged 12 to 17 is a very welcome development in the Department of Education. Dili man gud makapadayon sa atong normal nga kinabuhi ang mga ginikanan ug mga magtutudlo kung dili mabakunahan ang atong mga kabataan [Parents and teachers cannot continue living the normal life if the youth will not be vaccinated],” he said.

Gazo is optimistic that the soonest the herd immunity is achieved, everyone, particularly the teens, will enjoy their most awaited moment of visiting places they like.

As such, he conveyed his gratitude to the local government and other parties which strived to push this kind of effort.

ICNHS Assistant Principal Richard Talaid also emphasized that with the immunization of minors, the reopening of face-to-face classes may happen soon.

“Ang mga lakang nga gihimo sa atong panggobyerno karon, ang pagbakuna sa atong mga kabataan nga gaedad sa 12 ngadto sa 17 [years old], isa kini sa possible nga basehan nga para ang departamento sa edukasyon posible mag-abri sa face-to-face [classes],” he said.

[The steps taken by our government now, the inoculation of our youth aged 12 to 17  years old, this is one of the possible bases so that our department of education will possibly open face-to-face classes.]

Talaid further stated that it is for this reason that the ICNHS willingly offered its time and resources to be one of the vaccination centers in the city.

As part of supporting the vaccination program, the DepEd – Iligan continues to urge the citizenry to help encourage others to get COVID-19 jabs as soon as possible for their own health safety.

“Hinaot nga unta atong agnihon ang uban ug atong mga amigo ug kaparentihan. Himuon nato ang pagpabakuna sa atong kaugalingon usa ka Christmas gift alang sa atong kaugalingon, pamilya ug nasud… Ang pagsiguro sa atong kaugalingon maoy pagsiguro sa uban, pamilya ug sa atong nasud. Sa ingon niini, makahatag kita og nindot nga ugma alang kanatong tanan,” said Gazo.

[I hope that you encourage others, and our friends and relatives. Let us make this vaccination a Christmas gift for ourselves, our family, and our country… Insuring ourselves is insuring others, family, and our country. In this way, we can provide a brighter tomorrow for all of us.] (CRG/PIA-Lanao del Norte)
