CAGAYAN DE ORO (PIA)–The Department of Health (DOH)-10 continues to improve the capabilities of Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs) by giving them the necessary skills and equipment to properly handle the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
In a virtual press conference held on Friday, April 17, by the Northern Mindanao Task Force for COVID-19, DOH-19 Regional Director Adriano P. Subaan shared that the five provinces and two cities had continued its general community quarantine with more police and military presence in the area.
To complement this effort, the DOH has strengthened the capabilities of the BHERTs by providing them with equipment and the necessary skills to properly handle the COVID-19 pandemic in their respective villages.
Subaan also disclosed that the DOH had provided logistics assistance and support through its Surveillance Cluster in coordination with the Disease Surveillance Units (DSUs).
In support of the BHERTs, the DOH has also strategically emplaced informational material in their localities and provided them with PPEs.
BHERTs, the first line of defense against the pandemic, are people who have undergone training programs and who voluntarily provide health care services in the community after they have been duly accredited by the DOH.
“I commend their commitment, especially these frontliners. They understand why we do what we do so that we can mitigate the spread of this disease. I’m really appreciative of the contribution of each person in the frontlines knowing too well that if we don’t succeed, it will have a detrimental impact in Northern Mindanao,“ he concluded.
