DOH-10 sends out team to boost vax campaign in Camiguin

CAMIGUIN (PIA)–Strengthening the coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 vaccination campaign in the province, the Department of Health (DOH)-10 sent out a team that will roam around the province for one week to help the local government unit (LGU) convince the people on the benefits and importance of vaccination.

“We are looking at Camiguin as a special province in the region. Kini siya gipalibutan sa tubig ug medyo halayo, maglisod gyud ta ug tabok. So karon nakita pud nato nga medyo mubo-mubo ang atong accomplishment sa pagbakuna niining COVID-19,
and lately we know for a fact that COVID-19 sa Probinsya sa Camiguin has been growing or gataas-taas gyud siya,” DOH-10 Local Health Support Division Chief Dr. David Mendoza said.

(The province is surrounded by water and it is somewhat far, thus, we really find it difficult to cross the area. Now, we have seen that we have low turnout of COVID-19 vaccination accomplishment and lately we know for a fact that COVID-19 in the Province of Camiguin has been growing)

In an interview with Mambajao Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Head Raquel Ranara, August 17 over Alerto radio program, Mendoza said even with the strict border control in the province, transmission will still happen since there are already confirmed cases inside the area.

As for the social mobilization in Camiguin, Mendoza said the team will help the LGU in making the people understand the effects of being vaccinated and the consequences of not availing the free vaccine from the government.

“Kung ikaw mabakunahan, ikaw protektado sa COVID-19. Dili ikaw dali mamatay ug kung magkasakit man gani ikaw, mild lang but never ikaw mag-severe o magkritikal,” the chief added.

(If you are vaccinated, you will be protected against COVID-19. You will not die immediately and if you become ill, you will only experience mild symptoms but you will never become severe or critical)

Aside from beefing up the vaccination campaign, DOH-10 will also send out a team of doctors and nurses to the province to augment the medical frontliners who administer the vaccination. Mendoza said such is essential to vaccinate at least 70-80% of Camiguingnons.

Addressing the concerns after vaccination, Mendoza said DOH and the healthcare workers in the province are following the protocols in handling the adverse event following immunization (AEFI). Necessary monitoring is conducted and workers are readily available to answer any concern after vaccination.

As of August 21, the province has recorded 120 COVID-19 confirmed cases of which 17 are from Mambajao, Mahinog (47), Guinsiliban (10), Sagay (23) and Catarman (16). Seven are availing the no quarantine policy.

From March 2020-present, there are 855 recoveries and 55 deaths due to COVID-19 in the province. There are 599 persons with history of travel or COVID-19 exposure of which 409 are from Mambajao, 77 from Mahinog, 5 from Guinsiliban, 43 from Sagay, and 65 from Catarman. (RTP/PIA-10)
