DOH-10 urges public to get COVAX jab

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–Even if the vaccination is not a must, the Department of Health (DOH)-10 still encourages the public to get vaccinated during their vaccination schedule.

“We are encouraging all. Anyway, during the vaccination, we have what we call screeners. They will screen whether the person can be vaccinated or not. This is not a must but it is voluntary, but we ask the public to be vaccinated,” said Dr. David Mendoza, DOH-10 Local Health Support Division chief during the episode of Talakayan sa PIA: COVID Series.

Mendoza underscored the importance of having a jab of the vaccine since this will help the country prevent and control the spread of COVID-19. Further, he also encouraged those who have comorbidities such as high blood, hypertension, and heart disease to avail themselves of the vaccination program.

On the other hand, despite the COVID-19 vaccination rollout in the region, additional cases of COVID-19 have been recorded.

These incidents are being compared to a peltzman effect in which people are being complacent since there are already available vaccines to counter the virus.

DOH reminded the public that even after being vaccinated against COVID-19, there is no assurance that the recipient would not be infected with the said virus.

“There are still possibilities of infections. That is why it is important to observe the minimum health standards or the BIDA Solusyon.” (JAKA/PIA10)
