First Digital Power Substation in Davao

Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. has launched its digital substation located in Calinan, Davao City.

A substation is an integral part of an electric power distribution system that transforms electricity coming from the transmission system from high to low voltage or the reverse so it can be easily and safely distributed to homes and businesses. Digitizing a substation is a move towards improving the accuracy, efficiency, reliability and availability of the power supply.

Davao Light’s digital substation now has an improved and higher capacity that can cater the growth and serve more customers in Calinan and its nearby areas. It is equipped with a communications system that allows online monitoring and assessment which will lead to early detection of possible technical problems thus, immediate intervention can be done which will significantly help prevent, shorten and reduce power outages and their impact to the community. This feature will lessen the manual checking of the substation and reduce the manual labor in restoring power which is also very helpful in minimizing people contact and community exposure during this time of quarantine.

“The threat of the pandemic did not lessen the dedication and commitment of Davao Light in providing reliable power and quality service to its customers by pushing the success of this project despite these trying times. This is also very timely to ensure that there is stable power for the residents to enjoy in the comforts of their homes during this community quarantine period” said Rodger S. Velasco, Davao Light President and COO.

With its vision to be a world-class utility, Davao Light, an Aboitiz Power subsidiary has kept its pace in the worldwide trend of digitization making Davao City the investors’ choice in terms of power stability provided to power businesses and contribute to nation-building amidst the COVID-19 crisis.
