Globe to use QR-based IDs to fight fraudsters, spot posers

Globe is set to issue quick response (QR)-code identification cards to all its legitimate site acquisition, site management and right of way agents employed by its accredited partners/vendors. The initiative aims to protect its contractors and lessors from fraud.

 

The QR-code ID is capable of real-time validation if the agents dealing with concerned parties are authorized representatives of Globe.

 

The move comes on concerns received by the telco giant against certain parties taking advantage of the trust given by property and building owners.

 

These unscrupulous individuals allegedly represent themselves as brokers or contractors before property or building owners, demanding as well advance payments or reservation fees for their properties to be considered for purchase or lease agreements.

 

“The public should be careful in transacting with people claiming to represent the company. We encourage property owners that before they entertain offers from anyone, they should check the legitimacy of these agents’ identity and credentials through the QR code. We are set to install a record number of new cell sites this year and we will need locations for our network builds.  Our utmost priority is that all parties concerned in this undertaking will be protected from scammers, ill intentions, and unscrupulous individuals taking advantage of property owners.” said Vince Tempongko, Globe VP for Site Acquisition and Management.

 

Globe prohibits the practice of asking prospective land or property owners advance payments, commissions or reservation fees by its 3rd party agents in its procurement or lease of strategic locations to build cell towers and other devices.

 

“We would like to remind them that Globe does not ask for payments or fees to be given to our agents.” added Tempongko.

 

Globe’s aggressive and sustained network builds and upgrades are showing enhanced overall customer data experience as the telco emerged as the most improved in mobile average download speed across all technologies to 16.44 Mbps in Q4 2020 from 13.50 Mbps in Q4 2019, a 22% improvement according to Ookla data[1].
