Governor Dimaporo leads distribution of dairy goats

TUBOD, Lanao del Norte (PIA) – The Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte through the Provincial Veterinary Office launched its Dairy Goat Production program at the compound of Provincial Agriculture’s Office, Pigcarangan, Tubod, on July 14.

Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo led the distribution and expressed delight that for so long, the program has finally commenced to gradually realizing the Dairy Industry Development Program of the Provincial Government under the 20% Development Fund for Calendar Year 2017.

The delay was due to the scarcity of dairy goat suppliers that could provide and deliver the number of goats needed by the Provincial Government.
Governor Dimaporo said the activity is timely as it can help in the livelihood of the selected beneficiaries from Barangays Campo 5 and Taguranao of Tubod and Barangays Durianon and Daan Campo of Magsaysay.

Dr. Fritzie P. Provido, the Acting Provincial Veterinarian, said their office selected these barangays for the program after a thorough observation that goat raising is thriving in these areas.

Each barangay will have six (6) beneficiaries and will receive four (4) Does and one (1) Buck to nurture,  and will repay the Provincial Government with the same number and age as received when the time comes so that it will be handed to the next in line beneficiary within the barangay, who are willing to help the dairy industry to prosper.

Only the beneficiaries from Barangay Campo 5 and Barangay Taguranao of Tubod received their goats including mineral blocks and vitamins on Tuesday. The  Provincial Veterinary Office will hand over the same to the beneficiaries of Barangay Durianon and Barangay Daan Campo of Magsaysay in the coming days.

For the program to develop and sustain, Governor Dimporo encourages the beneficiaries to take care of the goats and always ask assistance or guidance from the Provincial Veterinary Office to produce high-quality raw milk.

Goat milk produced a variety of products including cheese, beverage milk, buttermilk, and other frozen products such as ice cream and frozen yogurt.

Also, it is a valuable and beneficial ingredient in many cosmetics and skincare products, like soaps, lotions, creams, and cleansers, which the Governor is hopeful to see that in the coming years the Province of Lanao del Norte will become one of the major producers and suppliers of high-quality goat milk in the country.
