Governor Dimaporo taps support of Ulama in fight vs Covid-19

TUBOD, Lanao del Norte (PIA) — Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo met with Ulama (Muslim religious leaders) in the province on Sunday, April 19,  to request for cooperation in discouraging mass or religious gatherings during the observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The Governor also appealed to them to adhere to the memorandum issued by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) which temporarily suspended the conduct of congregational prayers, ijtima or johoor (mass gathering of Islamic preachers), multaqa (academic convergence on Islamic issues), and madaris (Islamic and Arabic schools) classes in a move to help contain the spread of COVID-19 in the communities.

Dimaporo earnestly advised them to perform the prayers, especially the Taraweeh,  in their own home and only with their family.

Taraweeh is a prayer performed every night during the month-long observance of Ramadhan set to begin this week.

During the meeting, Sheik Khairoden Sharief and Sheik AbdurRahim Batingolo helped in explaining to their fellow Ulama the intention of the Governor.

Lawyer Mark Christopher Babor also discussed the legality of Executive Order 06, series of 2020 or the “Guidelines on the Declaration of an Enhanced Community Quarantine ” issued by the Provincial Governor on March 22, 2020.

Lyndon G. Calica, the Incident Commander of the Incident Management Team and the Provincial Information Officer, also addressed questions raised during the meeting.

Meanwhile, Dimaporo thanked the leaders for attending the meeting and sharing their thoughts regarding the appeal of the Provincial Government for the safety and the interest of the people. (PIO LDN/PIA ICIC)
