IPHO notes decreasing trend of PUIs, PUMs in Lanao del Sur

MARAWI CITY (PIA) — Persons showing symptoms of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Lanao del Sur have gone down, according to the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO).

Dr. Alinader Minalang, IPHO chief, said the total number of persons under investigation (PUIs) is down to only 10 from 30 while the two confirmed COVID-19 positive cases have recovered and were discharged from the Amai Pakpak Medical Center on April 1.

The first patient, identified as PH490, is a 56-year old female from Marawi City with a travel history in Metro Manila. While the second patient, PH419, is a 61-year old male from Marawi City with a travel history in Metro Manila.

Their first results were released on March 23 and both tested positive for COVID-19. On March 30, after re-testing, their laboratory results tested negative.

The total number of persons under monitoring (PUMs) also went down significantly. As of April 3,  only 432 remained as PUMs after 1,738 have completed the 14-day quarantine period.

“We are flattening the curve.  If we can successfully guard ourselves and every household in the province from the entry of new COVID-19 cases, then we can prevent transmission and eventually win the battle against this dreaded novel coronavirus,” said Minalang.

The IPHO chief reiterated that the coronavirus can be contained if everyone will work together hand-in-hand.

“We enjoin the public to support the enhanced community quarantine guidelines and follow our official advisories on COVID-19 prevention like staying at home, frequent handwashing, social or physical distancing, proper coughing etiquette, and keeping ourselves healthier. Everyone’s support and cooperation are necessary,” he said.

“Konting sacrifice lang. Frontliners like us, health workers, our security forces, emergency responders, social workers and volunteers with the support of our leaders at the central, regional, provincial, municipal and barangay levels are working day and night for you,” Minalang further assured.
