Kinoguitan SK taps virtual channels for youth engagement

KINOGUITAN, Misamis Oriental (PIA)–In lieu of physical activities and the usual face-to face-youth oriented programs in their municipality, the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Kinoguitan taps virtual channels to engage their young constituents in the mitigation of the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 contagion and other developmental initiatives.

“Karamahihan sa nahahawaan [ng Delta variant] ay kabataan. As reponse ng Sangguniang Kabataan, meron po kaming kinonduct na information drive towards COVID-19, may posting po kami online about coronavirus health tips,” said Kinoguitan SK Federation President Marian Marban during the Network Briefing News with Communications Sec. Martin Andanar, August 12.

(Most who got infected [with the Delta variant] are young people. In response to this, the Sangguniang Kabataan have conducted an information drive towards COVID-19, and we have postings online about coronavirus health tips)

She added that in their online postings, they have bolstered their information dissemination efforts by providing accurate information when it comes to best practices in combating COVID-19 and misinformation about the vaccine program in addition to their barangay’s ‘rekorida.’

Aside from their virtual information drive, the Kinoguitan SK also championed various online contests and activities to keep the youth’s engagement in their municipality while staying at home such as Mobile Legends e-sports tournaments, virtual talent show, and poster and Tik Tok making contest versus COVID-19.

Further, as support to the new blended learning landscape, Marban said they distributed school supplies to learners and teachers in Kinoguitan.

“This pandemic has not been easy for us. Our way of learning has been disrupted, we have been separated by our friends and families, and many of us have lost jobs or lost hope in finding one. But let us be part of these big changes brought by this new normal. The SK is here to lend a hand to whatever help we can offer. Together, let’s beat COVID-19, let’s all heal as one,” she said.
