LANAO DEL NORTE (PIA)–The Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte through the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office (DSWD) organized the culmination of the Provincial Elderly Filipino Week with the theme, “Healthy and Productive Ageing Starts with Me” held at the Mindanao Civic Center Gymnasium, October 28.

Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo recognized the elderly’s important role in society, not only in guiding and inspiring the new generation but as well as partners for sustainable peace and development.

The provincial government prepared gifts for the elders and a program to provide entertainment.  Elderlies from the different municipalities of the province showcased their talents by performing traditional Filipino songs and dance.

About 2,801 Senior Citizens from the Municipalities of Linamon, Kauswagan, Bacolod, Maigo, Kolambugan, Tubod, Baroy, Lala, Kapatagan, Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Sapad and Magasaysay actively participated in the said event.

Daisy Ramos, the focal person for senior citizens of the DSWD-10, encouraged the elderlies to continue being productive citizens of the community despite their age and physical abilities.

For her part, Christine Mae Magno, Philhealth chief of Iligan and Lanao del Norte, provided relevant information on PhilHealth coverage and benefits and reminded the elders to enroll in PhilHealth to avail the services of the company. (PIO-LDN/PIA10)
