Lanao del Norte School Board tackles suitable programs amidst COVID-19 pandemic

TUBOD, Lanao del Norte (PIA) — Members of the Provincial School Board of Lanao del Norte convened in a meeting to discuss programs that would suit the current situation particularly in delivering quality education to learners amid challenges due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The meeting was presided by Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo, who expressed appreciation to the efforts of Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) Edilberto L. Oplenaria and officers and personnel of the Department of Education (DepEd) – Division of Lanao del Norte for identifying and implementing viable modes of learning in consideration of the health crisis faced by the country.

Governor Dimaporo said the Provincial Government through the Provincial School Board is committed to supporting the programs, projects, and activities of DepEd that enhance and improve the education system in the province, including values formation and activities that promote peace and unity at the early age.

The mass production of printed learning materials that will be distributed to all the students in the province is one of the challenges that DepEd-Lanao del Norte is currently working on considering that a greater number of learners have no access to the internet, cable network and television. Moreover, not all family has two or more transistor radio that could be utilized if there are two or more learners in each family.

To complement the printed learning materials, DepEd-Lanao del Norte will provide voice over or animated instruction materials in a USB format as a guide to students as they go through each module.

Governor Dimaporo asked SDS Oplenaria to immediately find and purchase the right printing machine that could produce and address the number of printed learning materials before the tentatively scheduled opening of classes on August 24, 2020.

She also offered the DXNE-FM Radio Station and other media platforms of the Provincial Government.

Meanwhile,  Sittie Aminah Quibranza-Dimaporo, the Provincial Administrator, suggested to the members of the board to purchase a generator machine instead of a solar-powered device to be installed at DepEd-Lanao del Norte Office for uninterrupted supply of electricity to the computers.

She said that “generators are more practical, easy, and cheap to maintain compared to a solar-powered device. Though the latter is environment friendly,  it is expensive to operate and maintain.”

SDS Oplenaria thanked the Governor and the officials of the Provincial Government for their active and continuous support to the programs, projects, and activities of DepEd-Lanao del Norte in providing effective and quality education that is also accessible, especially in this trying times.

The meeting was held at Macapagal Training Center, Governor Arsenio A. Quibranza Provincial Government Center compound, Pigcarangan, Tubod, on June 19, 2020. (PIO-LDN/PIA ICIC)
