Lanao del Sur needs more manpower for COVID-19 response

MARAWI CITY (PIA) – The Lanao del Sur Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force on coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is requesting the national government for additional manpower to augment the existing frontliners of the province for the pandemic response.

Provincial Vice Governor Mohammad Khalid ‘Mujam’ Adiong aired the request during the Laging Handa Network Briefing with Communications Secretary Martin Andanar on Tuesday, June 15.

“Sana po ay madagdagan ang manpower namin – ang PNP, AFP at health workers – dahil itong mga dumarating na kababayan natin ay overwhelming at baka hindi po kayanin, ” he said.

“We hope for additional manpower – PNP, AFP, and health workers – because the arrival of our people is overwhelming and we may not be able to handle it.]

Adiong said their biggest challenges now are the manpower and facility requirements brought about by spike in the number of returning individuals.

“Our community quarantine facility can only accommodate 100 yet the daily average of those returning via airports, seaports, and land is about 200-300,” he added.

Meanwhile, Adiong appealed to Lanao del Sur residents, including returning individuals and overseas workers, to observe and follow the health protocols set by the provincial government and their respective municipal government and barangay officials to avoid local transmission of COVID-19.

As of 8:00 am on June 16, a total of 34 active COVID-19 cases has been recorded in the province. These cases are from those individuals who arrived under the Hatid Tulong program. (APB/PIA ICIC)
