MARAWI CITY (PIA) – The provincial government of Lanao del Sur through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) released cash aid to 991 public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers here.
The distribution of P1,100 cash assistance was held August 6-7, 2020 at the Tennis Court of the New Capitol Complex, this city.
Mariam Balindong, head of the PSWDO, said the program aims to help PUJ drivers whose livelihood was greatly affected due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
Accordingly, the PSWDO has coordinated with the city government of Marawi for the list of registered PUJ drivers plying the routes within the 39 municipalities of the province and to the neighboring cities of Cotabato, Iligan, Cagayan de Oro, and Davao.
“Malaki ang maitutulong nito sa aming mga drayber dahil nakahinto kami sa pamamasada kaya naapektuhan ang kabuhayan namin. Nagpapasalamat kami sa Provincial Government at sa PSWDO,” said Mansawi Moti from the municipality of Saguiaran.
Ainah Mangotara whose husband was among the driver-recipient in Marawi also expressed gratitude to the provincial government for the cash aid.
“Nagpapasalamat kami dahil kasama kami sa nakatanggap at dahil makakatulong ito sa pang araw-araw na gastusin namin,” she said. (APB/PIA ICIC with reports from PIO-LDS)
