MALAYBALAY CITY (PIA)—The Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) turned over a P4.28 million refrigerated van to Lantapan local government unit (LGU) for the town’s vegetable farmer-entrepreneurs.
In a brief statement highlighting the equipment handover during the ‘Araw ng Lantapan’ celebration on June 19, DA 10 Regional Executive Director Carlene Collado said that the facility could help vegetable growers cut postharvest losses.
“Funded under Bayanihan 2, the facility includes 40 plastic crates and a pushcart,” he said.
Collado, likewise, indicated that this is one of the DA’s Enhanced Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita Financial Grant Assistance program being administered by the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division.
Municipal Agriculturist Neptali Ambos, meanwhile, disclosed that the refrigerated van will be used to transport fresh fruits and vegetable products of Lantapan Vegetable Farmers Marketing Cooperative (LVFMC), the largest and most active farmers’ organization in town.
“Lantapan municipality is one of the major producers of vegetables and other high-value crops in Bukidnon province. Hence, this refrigerated van is a big help to farmers because it prolongs the shelf life of the farmers’ harvests,” he said.
On behalf of Lantapan Mayor Ernie Devibar, Ambos thanked the Department of Agriculture for its support to Lantapan town’s vegetable farmer-entrepreneurs. (DA-10/PIA-10, Bukidnon)
