LDN farmers learn Carrageenan technology for higher yields

LANAO DEL NORTE, (PIA)–To incur higher yields at lower input costs, the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte through the Provincial Agriculturist Office held the “Farmers Field Day on Carrageenan Plant Growth Promoter Technology for Rice: A Grant to Rice Farmers in Lanao del Norte” held at the Provincial Nursery in Kapatagan town, October 2.

Conducted in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD), and Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI), the activity taught farmers to use the said technology where plants will exhibit stronger stems, longer roots, healthier tillers, and longer panicles.

Romalene A. Limpiada, weed scientist from the National Crop Protection Center of UP Los Baños, discussed CPGPT for rice and presented a short briefing on proper timing of application of Carrageenan plant-growth promoter (PGP).

Provincial Rice Program Coordinator Rodolfo P. Aranzado talked on the yield performance of hybrid rice in response to Bigante Plus in various fertilizer applications of Carrageenan PGP.

Right after the presentation, an open forum was set to address the inquiries and questions of rice farmers.

The provincial government fully supports the program which will help enhance rice production and improve farmers’ income in Lanao del Norte. (PIO LDN/PIA10)
