MARAWI CITY, Mar. 16 (PIA) — The city government extended the suspension of classes in all levels, both public and private schools, until March 22 due to coronavirus disease-19 (Covid-19) threat.
The extension will allow the city government to continue disinfecting public places as well as private establishments to efficiently address and prevent the escalation of the local transmission of Covid-19.
City Mayor Majul Gandamra previously suspended classes from March 13 to March 15.
“Academic institutions that will deliberately refuse to follow or disregard the executive order shall be sanctioned accordingly,” Gandamra said.
The city government also implemented a public health emergency mechanism for the Covid-19.
Meanwhile, Mindanao State University (MSU) President Habib Macaayong has issued an order for the suspension of classes until March 20.
Macaayong said that the “duration of the suspension shall be utilized for sanitizing campus premises.”
“In consideration of the situation of those employees living outside Marawi City and Lanao del Sur, all faculty members and staff residing thereat shall be excused from reporting on the campus during the said dates,” he added. (LELA/PIA ICIC)
