MARAWI CITY (PIA) – To ensure food security in Lanao del Sur, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) Provincial Office distributed registered rice seeds and fertilizers to thirteen (13) municipalities in the province known for its fertile and green rice fields.
Mostly from the first district of the province, these municipalities are Butig, Sultan Dumalundong, Ditsaan Ramain, Masiu, Poona-Bayabao, Buadipuso Buntong, Taraka, Lumbatan, Bubong, Maguing, Mulondo, Kapai, and Tagoloan II.
For every hectare, they received a bag of 20kg-registered seeds, two bags of Urea Fertilizer, and three bags of complete fertilizer.
Four municipalities – Masiu, Poona Bayabao, Buadipuso Buntong, and Taraka – cover the largest areas with 100 hectares each.
Pangalian Balindong Jr., MAFAR Provincial Head, said the program aims to establish inbreed rice demonstration farms within the seven hundred fifty hectares (750ha) rice farms and sustain rice availability within the province. (MAFAR LDS / PIA ICIC)
