Mainit village in Iligan marked ‘cleared’ from insurgency

ILIGAN CITY (PIA)–The secluded Brgy. Mainit here is now up for lots of progress and more government services to reach their community.

This, after the barangay, was declared free from insurgency that once hindered the coming of any development.

Following the confirmation of the cleared barangay, city councilor Ian Uy, chair of the Committee on Peace and Order, said there were really no camps of the New People’s Army (NPA) situated in the city.

“Cleared ni siya. Diri sa Iligan, wala gyud tay ingon nga naay mga kampo diri sa New People’s Army, kung dili, every time nga naay mga operation nga mahitabo sa kasikbit nato nga mga local government unit, ang kaning mga armadong grupo,  diri muagi sa ato paingon sa tabok sa lain nga mga area o probinsya,” he said.

[This is cleared. Here in Iligan, there are really no camps of the New People’s Army, rather, every time there are operations happening at neighboring local government units, these armed groups pass here going to other areas and provinces.]

Lt. Col. Franco Raphael Alano, commanding officer of 55th Infantry Battalion, affirmed the recognition of Brgy. Mainit’s status while stressing that his battalion still pushes through security operations to prevent any attempts of insurgency.

“[Brgy.] Mainit is cleared from the enemy’s influence. For quite a time, wala tayong nakitang significant activities dito [we did not significant activities here], but our security forces are not playing it safe. We are still conducting not only combat patrols, but we are also conducting dialogues with all sectors here in Mainit, to include iyong [those] informal leaders in cooperation with the local government unit para mahinto na natin iyong threats [to stop the threats] coming from the insurgence,” he said.

Officials bared that for the past years and months, there had been reports involving armed groups but this did not take long because the group moved to other areas.

Despite this, the city remains optimistic that this will not crucially affect the current positive situation of Brgy. Mainit, considering that residents strongly cooperate.

Meanwhile, the government firmly calls on the citizens to not be deluded by the deceitful promises of communist-terrorist groups.

“Marami ng naloko at naexploit ang NPA. Huwag silang makinig doon. Marami ng namatay na mga tao at nasirang mga pamilya dahil sa kanilang panlilinlang. Ang sa akin lang, magtiwala sila sa gobyerno, sa kapulisan at armed forces na gagawin namin ang lahat upang ang hinanaing nila ay masosolusyonan,” said Alano.

[The NPA has already deceived and exploited a lot. They should not listen to that. Many citizens have already died and families got broken because of their deception. For me, they should believe in the government, the police, and the armed forces that we will do everything just to resolve all their concerns.] (CRG/PIA-ICIC Lanao del Norte)
