Mambajao implements DTI’s price freeze on basic goods

CAMIGUIN (PIA)–Adopting the price freeze of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Camiguin for 60 days, the Office of the Sangguniang Bayan prohibits any person or establishment from selling certain basic goods and necessities beyond the price prescribed by DTI, March 18.
Enforcing the Anti-Overpricing on Basic Goods and Necessities Ordinance of Mambajao, the municipality deems it necessary to adopt the price freeze to protect the general consumer from becoming victim of overpriced basic goods and necessities.

The ordinance covers all act of selling, whether face to face or online on items such as canned sardines (in tomato sauce), processed milk, sweetened condensed filled, condensada, evaporated filled, evaporada, powdered filled, coffee (refill), detergent/laundry soap, candles (white), salt (iodized refined), instant noodles (beef or chicken flavor), and bottled water. 

A maximum fine of P2,500 will be imposed to violators or revocation of business permit, in case of establishment. 

In view of urgency and public health concern, this ordinance takes effect immediately and will be enforced during health emergency situation.  (Marc Ian A. Salem/PIA 10)
