CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–Composed of various media outlets in the region, the Media Advocates for Nutrition in Governance in region 10 (MANGO DIEZ) led by the National Nutrition Council (NNC)-10 held a virtual meeting to discuss local media plan to drum up public awareness on the nutrition programs and initiatives in Northern Mindanao.
NNC’s nutrition program coordinator Gladys Mae Fernandez shared that 2020 had been a challenging time to implement monitoring and evaluation of nutrition campaigns and programs because of COVID 19 but the NNC continues to do its campaigns and programs virtually especially with the local government units (LGUs) to improve their nutritional status.
As for the local media plan this year, NNC is looking into tapping radio stations to promote 2021 Nutrition Month campaign, airing of 10 Kumainments Nutrition School on-the-air (NSOA), and One Region in Nutrition for nutrition related news and information in region 10.
As to social media engagements, NNC-10 will continue its Short Filmmaking competitions from July to October with participants from junior and senior high school students region-wide to promote awareness and mobilize actions with the 2021 Nutrition Month theme.
In 2020, the winners for the short film making contest were Misamis Occidental National High School 3rd place for “Pagsibol”, Maigo National High School 2nd place for “Dear Mama” and Ozamiz City National High School, 1st place for “Tropeo.”
Other activities online include “May Gahum sa Nutrisyon,” F1K Days Matters, Nutri-Quiz, Pictoword, Nutri Q&A, Nutri-Word Search and Nutri-BIDA Challenge.
New programs for the LGUs include the Regional Webby Awards to recognize LGUs or local nutrition committees with highly visible and exemplary initiatives on promoting good nutrition for positive behavior change through the use of social media.
Last year, a total of nine LGUs participated in and the awardees were based on the Facebook analytics in different categories. The three top LGUs and local nutrition office Most Active Social Media Page in 2020 went to City Nutrition Committee – Cagayan de Oro City (1st place), Ozamiz City Nutrition Committee (2nd place) and Misamis Occidental Provincial Nutrition Committee (3rd place).
Meanwhile, MANGO DIEZ will have a planning workshop together with is members to identify 2021 activities and maximize the use of multimedia platforms and will conduct a Technical Exchange with other NNC media group by sharing best practices in advocating and promoting nutrition.
NNC-10 acknowledges the importance to have a media group that is also advocate for nutrition for easy dissemination of nutrition advocacy and programs. (JMOR/PIA10)
