Marawi IDPs receive food packs from LGU amid COVID-19 threat

MARAWI CITY (PIA) — As the enhanced community quarantine continues due to the threat of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the internally displaced persons sheltered in various transitory shelter sites in the city received food packs from the local government unit (LGU) of Marawi City.

While observing precautionary measures, LGU Marawi has distributed some 3,188 food packs containing four kilos of rice, three cans of sardines and three packs of noodles to the IDPs in transitory shelter sites located in barangays Boganga, Rorogagus, Sagonsongan of Marawi City and in Bakwit Village in Matungao, Lanao del Norte.

Mayor Majul Gandamra led the relief operation of the city government to families affected by the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).

In his visit to the Sagonsongan Transitory Shelter Site, Mayor Majul Gandamra asked for patience and understanding of the IDPs during hardship caused by the COVID-19 threat. He said that despite the fear and the dread that COVID-19 brings, the city government will continue to provide support for the residents.

Prior to the distribution of the city government, the barangay local government units of the 24 most-affected area barangays have also distributed food packs to the IDPs. LGU Marawi also provided support in the said distribution.

LGU Marawi will continue the distribution of food packs today, April 8, for the 6,500 families of 21 barangays in the city. There will also be a schedule of distribution for the remaining barangays. (LELA/PIA ICIC)
