Normin, Japan consul seal partnership for needs matching seminars

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–Consul General Yoshiaki Miwa, consulate general of Japan in Davao, sealed an agreement with various regional stakeholders to conduct a series of webinars on Industry-Academe-Government (IAG) Collaboration during his visit in northern Mindanao, October 15.

This IAG is anchored on collaboration of resources and expertise between and among the local government units, regional line agencies, academe and industry.

ConGen Miwa highlighted three key areas of support: (1) link industry and academe through industry development policy; (2) create a culture of Industry-Academe-Government collaboration; and (3) fund research to address gaps on commercialization, internationalization, among others.

He cited the Science and Technology Park of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) as the convergence area where the three stakeholders would cooperate. Further, ConGen Miwa recommended the conduct of monthly Seeds and Needs Matching Webinars to invite Japanese investors/locators to explore development opportunities in the region.

Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II, USTP System president, said the Master Plan for the Science and Technology Park has been completed.

Mylah Faye Aurora B. Cariño, National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA)-10 regional director, expressed support to the initiatives of the Consul General and recommended the formulation of the Terms of Reference, emphasizing the prioritization of thematic areas as focus of discussions during the series of Webinars.

The USTP committed to host the first Webinar on 5 November 2021. (NEDA-10/PIA-10)
