North Poblacion SK eyes youth empowerment vs COVID-19

MEDINA, Misamis Oriental (PIA)–To aid in the government’s fight against the effects of the coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 pandemic, the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of North Poblacion, Medina, targets to strengthen youth engagement in the community through implementing various programs spearheaded by the Unified Youth of North Poblacion initiative.

(The Unified Youth of North Poblacion is an organization that allows the youth to be active in all programs and activities here in SK North Poblacion. It allows the practice of youth empowerment here in our barangay, and shows that the youth is with us in the development of our barangay)

Through their organization, Ranque said they distributed 1,700 food packs to pandemic affected families and individuals in the midst of quarantine through their members’ strong cooperation and involvement.

Further, they also distributed school supplies, which varied from reams of bond papers, folders, and more to the primary, secondary, and tertiary learning institutions in their area after consulting the needs of students, teachers, and professors.

As part of their youth empowerment, they were also able to tie up with non-government organization (NGO) “Self-Help” group and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) of Misamis Oriental to offer 50 slots of vocational training for their out-of-school youth.

Despite the challenges brought upon the global health crisis among its barangay, Ranque remains steadfast in uplifting the morale of the younger demographic whose lives were disrupted.

(For the youth in North Poblacion, we must remain optimistic in all things, especially in what is happening right now. Let us be active in helping those in need, keep our bodies and our environment clean, and always remember to have faith in the almighty). (VPSB/PIA-10/Misamis Oriental)
