EL SALVADOR CITY, Misamis Oriental (PIA) –The crowd cheered as Isobel June Teaño of Opol, Misamis Oriental bagged the crown for this year’s Miss Kuyamis 2020.

A total of 21 beauty contingents representing 19 municipalities and two cities in the province battled for the title on January 9, 2020 at El Salvador City Gymnasium.

On its 7thyear, the show displayed each of the contestant’s confidence and beauty through a catwalk wearing their swimwear attire and their evening gowns. Finally, it ended with the selection of top-five and a question and answer portion.

Lawyer Joeffrey Saclot, Misamis Oriental Provincial Tourism Officer, said the event is the brainchild of Governor Yevgeny Vincente “Bambi” Emano to boost economic activities of the province through tourism.

To date, two Miss Kuyamis winners have already represented the province at the national level and have brought pride to Mindanao namely Miss Ana Monica Tan of Tagoloan who was crowned Miss Philippines Air 2019 and Miss Chella Grace Falconer from Medina as top 10 finalists in the Miss Millennial 2019 at one of the country’s major TV company’s noontime show.

Governor Emano said when he started Kuyamis Festival six years ago, people said it was impossible but through the support of his team and staff at the capitol who believed in his dreams, the festival is becoming bigger and bigger each year.

He said this is also the 90thbirthday of Misamis Oriental.

Tourism, he explained can answer to providing food for each person’s table. Through tourism, economic activities will blossom. People can eat three times a day, he emphasized.

With the question, how will you describe tourism in Misamis Oriental at present, all top five contestants agree that natural resources must be preserved and tourism activities must be pushed even further to help Misamisnons elevate their economic status.
