OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental (PIA )–The city government here has released a total of P16.2 million to the 51 barangays as their shares from real property taxes for the years 2016 to 2019 to ensure that there will be enough funds for Ozamiznons amidst coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis.
Mayor Sancho Fernando Oaminal said the barangays are expected to utilize the funds for their supplemental budget and other projects against COVID-19.
“We hope this could be used to assist our people in need,” Oaminal added.
Noel Paran, barangay captain of Stimson Abordo said the funds will be utilized for COVID-19 related activities.
“All these programs are included in our annual budget. All of our constituents must benefit from our shares of the real property tax,” he said during the turnover ceremony.
According to Section 271 of the Local Government Code, 30 percent shall be distributed among the component barangays of the cities where the property is located. (SMRN/PIA10)
