OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental (PIA)–As early as the first week of January, the Barangay Operation Timbang (OPT) Plus teams have been conducting the Operation Timbang (weighing) at the health centers during immunization and through house-to-house visits in Ozamiz City.
The teams, which are composed of the barangay nutrition scholars (BNS), barangay health workers (BHWs), barangay councilors, purok presidents, barangay peacekeeping action teams (BPATs), Breastfeeding Angels and other volunteers, ensure that the measurement of weight and height or length among 0 to 59 months children follows the issued memorandum circular by National Nutrition Council Memorandum (NNC) with strict observance of the health protocols against COVID-19.
City Nutrition Officer Lelit Navarez said, “OPT seeks to identify and locate malnourished children in the city, which is essential in the local planning of priority nutrition programs. We want to achieve the most accurate results. We provide technical assistance and demonstration on how to use the instruments or they can ask help from the local health unit.”
The result of the OPT Plus will help the LGU assess the nutritional status of the preschool children and will be useful in the nutrition action planning.
The Ozamiz City Nutrition Committee has called on parents to submit their 0 to 59 month old children to the annual OPT Plus. Also with the support of the barangay officials for the efficient implementation of the program. (SMRN/PIA Misamis Occidental)
