Passage of Marawi Compensation Bill vital in recovery of IDPs

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)–As the city marked the 4th anniversary of its liberation from the siege,  government officials conveyed that the passage of the Marawi Compensation Bill is vital in the recovery of the affected families and individuals.

National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) Secretary Saidamen Pangarungan expressed to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte who graced the commemoration at Rizal Park here Saturday, October 16, that more support projects and efforts for the city’s rehabilitation are hoped to be realized, particularly the total approval of the compensation bill to compensate for destructed private properties in the most affected area (MAA).

“If enacted into law the Marawi Compensation Bill, our traumatized residents in the most affected area will find complete solace, relief and peace on their way back home,” he said.

Lanao del Sur Provincial Governor Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr. said expediting the passing of the bill will be one the most remarkable legacies the Duterte administration can leave to IDPs.

“Ang agarang pagpasa at paglagda ng Marawi Compensation Act ay isa sa mga mahalagang umpisa, kwento ng pagbangon at handang pagbabalik ng mamamayan ng MAA sa kani-kanilang mga tahanan bago malipasan muli ng bagong taon. Ang katuparan nito ay isa sa mga maganda at hindi malilimutang legasiya ng iyong administration,” he said to Duterte.

[The immediate passing and signing of the Marawi Compensation Act is one of the important start, stories of recovery, and readiness of the residents of MAA to return to their own homes before the start of a new year. The fulfillment of this will be one of the wonderful and unforgettable legacies of your administration.]

Meanwhile, City Mayor Majul Gandamra showed optimism that the Chief Executive himself is also looking forward to the bill’s enactment which will then pay off the loss of MAA residents.  

“Through the good President’s support in the passing of the Compensation Bill in which I am certain that he is certainly looking forward to, we believe that the constituents of Marawi City will have a semblance of justice for what they have lost during the infamous Marawi siege,” he said.

To recall, the Marawi Compensation Bill was already passed by the lower house and is now awaiting the approval of the Senate for its enactment. (CRG/PIA-Lanao del Sur)
