TUBOD, Lanao del Norte–All employees of the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte joined the no-contact 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) facilitated by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
Recognizing the importance of disaster preparedness amid the pandemic, the PDRRMO, headed by Ms. Abeliza Manzano, encouraged everyone to have an innate response and react immediately by practicing the duck, cover, and hold position when an earthquake strikes and adhering to safety protocols during natural disasters or calamities.
The NSED is a quarterly activity organized by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) that seeks to heighten public awareness and educate the public on the importance of preparedness against hazards.
Because of its position in the Pacific Ring of Fire, the Philippines is prone to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions caused by the movement of tectonic plates. Thus, Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo is one with the OCD and PDRRMC in promoting public awareness to improve the capacity to respond to emergencies such as earthquakes and other natural disasters.
