DAVAO CITY — Poblacion Market Central (PMC) unveils the latest mural masterpiece “Sarimanok” by the legendary Rey Mudjahid “Kublai” Millan during the 37th Kadayawan Festival.
The latest Kublai masterpiece launched in August 15, 2022 is a beautiful mural inspired by the Sarimanok, a legendary bird in Maranao folklore. It is a ubiquitous figure in Maranao art that has captured the imagination of many Mindanaoan artists with its festive colors and beautiful symbolism of divine providence.
Jolla Soriaga, Assistant General Manager of Alsons Development and Investment Corporation recalls PMC’s first collaboration with Lawig Diwa headed by the great Rey Mudjahid “Kublai” Millan when PMC first opened its doors to the public in October last year as host to the Mindanao Art Fair in 2021. It was the third installment of the highly successful exhibition of the island’s best and brightest talents.
“We hope that this Sarimanok mural indeed brings prosperity to Poblacion Market Central and to all the artists, artisans, and business owners in Poblacion. We hope this awe-inspiring mural by Kublai encourages other budding creatives and entrepreneurs to partner with us in showcasing their talents, ideas, and ventures here at Poblacion Market Central,” Jolla Soriaga said.
Jolla Soriaga said they are looking forward for the hosting of Mindanao Art Fair 2022 in an even bigger and better venue.
On the same day, PMC also opened the doors to Kukun Food Hall featuring some of the city’s most beloved brands alongside exciting new food concepts. A lot of exciting pop-ups and events are all lined up for the month-long Kadayawan fest.
“Hey Monday Deli,” an Instagram famous restaurant by talented young chefs is expected to open in late August while BDO is set to transfer their main branch at Poblacion in early September.
“We have always envisioned Poblacion Market Central as a celebration of the city’s promising art, retail, and food scene, and we are happy to see how it’s shaping up to be just that with the city’s support and with the help of our valued partners,” Jolla Soriaga said.
She also thanked designers Architect Patrick Tan, Architect Denise de Castro who flew in all the way from Manila, and Architect Charisse Puentespina for helping Alsons Dev’s vision for Poblacion come to life.
Jolla Soriaga also thanked Art Boncato for helping put up a very nice Kadayawan display of rare Mindanaoan antiques generously lent by Aldevinco tenants.
