Punong barangays, DOLE pact ink for BPES

CAMIGUIN (PIA)–In an effort to provide continuity and sustainability of all employment programs, services and other income augmentation programs, the punong barangays of Mambajao, Catarman, and Sagay towns together with Lawyer Joffrey Suyao, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-10 director, signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) of the institutionalization of Barangay Public Employment Services (BPES), March 12, at Villa Paraiso Resort and Apartelle. 

In the agreement, the barangay secretary or the chairman on the committee on labor and employment will head the Desk. 

In close coordination with the LGU and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), DOLE shall capacitate the BPES Desk officers through provision of regular trainings, coaching and mentoring sessions to ensure an effective and efficient delivery of employment programs and services at the barangay level.

BPES will be a separate department with designated positions that will focus on promoting employment creation within the area of jurisdiction, strengthen and expand the existing employment facilitation service machinery, generate skills registry and formulate skills map in the barangay, and serve as referral and information center for the various services and programs of the DOLE and other agencies.

The office will Coordinate closely with the DOLE-X, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Philippine Overseas and Employment Administration (POEA), Department of Education (DEPED) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and establish linkage with other labor and employment agencies.
