
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC)-10 held its first quarter full council meeting to discuss and update its National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Framework and Plan 2020-2030.
The updated framework and plan aims to harmonize activities for disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM), climate change adaptation (CCA), and human security by addressing climate and disaster risks to achieve the shared goals of “Ambisyon Natin 2040.”
According to OCD Disaster Risk Governance Division Acting Chief Cheryl Loise Leal, the four thematic areas include (1) Disaster Prevention and Mitigation; (2) Disaster Preparedness; (3) Disaster Response; and (4) Disaster Rehabilitation and Recovery as retained from the previous framework but with revised the outcomes, outputs, activities, and indicators based on the updated insights from the past eight years of implementation.
With the advent of the global health crisis and emergence of new issues as a result of the pandemic, the prioritization of health and well-being in DRRM actions for all Filipinos was also tackled, ensuring gender-responsiveness, strengthening of multi-sectoral approach, and the advancement of digital transformation.
Attended by over 60 participants from various government agencies in the region, OCD-10 Regional Director Rosauro Gonzales Jr. urged RDRRMC members to cooperate for the swift localization and implementation of the framework for Northern Mindanao.
“In spite of the COVID-19 surge in the NCR, we must maintain preparedness so our economy can thrive during the pandemic. We will be addressing aspects that could be man-made or natural. We must look into how we can address disasters in the new normal,” he said. (VPSB/PIA10)
