DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Z. Duterte on Wednesday thanked the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) for their endorsement and support should she decide to run for president in the 2022 polls.
“I would like to express my gratitude to Lakas CMD for the unconditional support,” she said in a statement.
House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez said Wednesday that the Lakas-CMD has renewed its alliance agreement with the regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) ahead of next year’s elections.
He said the alliance agreement would bind the two parties to support whoever they decide to field as presidential candidates in next year’s polls.
“If Mayor Sara decides to seek higher office for 2022, we are ready to work for her victory in the coming election,” Romualdez said.
Apart from the support of Lakas-CMD, Duterte also disclosed that she is aware that the officers of HNP, the regional party which she chaired, are in talks with several highly-placed national officials regarding the 2022 elections.
“I am not privy to these discussions, but I was told that the meetings are about my candidacy for the Presidential race in 2022. I was assured that everyone involved in these talks will respect my decision if I decide against running for President,” Mayor Sara said.
She earlier said the presidency is not intended for a ‘woman’ like her, quoting previous remarks of her father, President Rodrigo Duterte. (PNA)
