DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Duterte confirmed on Monday that she will not be attending the sixth and final State of the Nation Address (SONA) of her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, on July 26.
In a radio interview, the mayor said she will just monitor the event.
“I will not be there [physically], but I will be watching on TV,” she said.
She also said that she is not yet aware who among her siblings will personally witness the SONA.
“I don’t have an idea, but definitely my mom won’t attend because I will not attend. I don’t know from other members of the family [if they will attend],” she added.
The younger Duterte also missed the first SONA in 2016 and the third in 2019 due to health reasons.
Last year’s address was limited to lawmakers and Cabinet members due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
House of Representatives Secretary General Mark Llandro Mendoza earlier said more guests — between 150 to 200 — may be allowed this year at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.
He said in an interview that attendees would still undergo Covid-19 tests and they are looking to require all attendees to be fully vaccinated. (PNA)
