SK Del Carmen highlights Bayanihan spirit amidst COVID-19

ILIGAN CITY (PIA) — Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Barangay del Carmen Chairperson Angela Joy Gamboa shared in today’s CORDS X podcast that “Bayanihan” spirit (helping one another) among residents dominated in the times of coronavirus virus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Sa atong giatubang na pandemya, mas nangibabaw jud ang bayanihan. Kay ako nakita na naay shortage sa facemask ug alcohol, pipila ka private sectors and individuals nagdonate na bukas palad sa pagtabang,” Gamboa said.

[During this pandemic we are facing, the essence of helpimg one another dominated. I have seen during the shortage of facemasks and alcohol that some private sectors and individuals donated unconditionally nallu to help.]

Gamboa also shared that there are some youth who volunteered as Bantay Purok Officers at the checkpoints.

“Nagpamatood ni na dili pang individual interes kundi buhi ang bayanihan sa atong mga Pilipino,” she added.

[This shows that there is no individual interests but the Bayanihan spirit of being a Filipino is alive.]

As the COVID-19 cases in the city has decreased, Gamboa shared that they have started some of their pending projects which were not implemented due to previous COVID-19 situation in the city.

SK Del Carmen has started distributing  465 school supplies to students of Del Carmen Integrated School. The youth group also plans to distrubute flashdrives to college students, conduct clean-up drives and promote backyeard gardening.

A bloodletting activity was also held in partnership with the city government of Iligan, Philippine Red Cross and Del Carmen Health Council.
Gamboa also urged her fellow youth to follow the minimum public health standards such as wearing of face masks and frequent handwashing.

“Our actions together today, decide on what will happen in the future. We should be wise on what we do,” she said.

To combat, information gaps and misinformation on COVID-19, SK Del Carmen also shares accurate news and information through their Facebook page. (LELA/PIA ICIC)
