OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental (PIA)–Citing various programs and initiative during the coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 contagion, Oroquieta City Sangguniang Kabataan President Von Henrich Gonzaga highlighted their adopt-a-family program during the CORDS X (Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security) Podcast with Presidential Communications Sec. Martin Andanar, June 27.
Gonzaga said the SK chairs in the city’s barangays agreed to utilize the SK funds in helping the struggling families and individuals especially during the pandemic. They also initiated fundraising programs to augment the assistance and cover more individuals.
Moreover, the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of Oroquieta City also initiates the Iwas COVID Child Care program where they provide art materials and customized infographic materials to inform the children about COVID-19.
“Ang sulod ani nga infographics is all about COVID-19 para masabtan sa mga bata kung unsa gyud ning COVID-19 (The infographics contain details about COVID-19, so the children will understand what COVID-19 is). Why they are not allowed to go out, why they should wear face masks and why they should wash our hands properly because we believe that the children are the most vulnerable individuals of COVID-19,” Gonzaga said.
The program was made possible through the partnership with the board members of the first district of Misamis Occidental, youth volunteers, and private individuals for donations.
Helping the needy
The SK in Oroquieta also distributed hygiene kits and food packs to the city’s barangays to help them cope with COVID-19 crisis. “Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of Oroquieta City is proving that we can do so much to help others even at the Sangguniang Kabataan level,” Gonzaga said.
Acknowledging those who helped make the project possible, the SK Oroquieta president thanked the SK chairs and volunteers for exerting efforts to help residents in need and the LGU officials for providing assistance through their programs and activities.
Making it possible
When it comes to funding the program, the SK used its SK funds, conducted fundraising activities, and urged citizen donations.
“We decided to realign the budget dedicated to our summer league activity to respond to the pandemic,” Gonzaga said.
