TFBM, partners gear up for Marawi liberation 4th anniversary

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)–Member-agencies of the Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM), Marawi city government, and other partner humanitarian organizations have begun preparations for the fourth anniversary of Marawi liberation on October 17.

The celebration aims to commemorate the triumphs of government troops against the Daesh-inspired Maute rebels.

To make the commemoration more meaningful, various activities have been lined up. These include distribution of livelihood assistance, assistive devices, and authenticated birth certificates in security paper (SECPA); provision of skills training; psychosocial healing activities; rice distribution, peace conversation, press briefing, radio guesting, and launching of Covid-19 Response Vaccine Campaign, among others.

A wreath-laying ceremony is also set to be held at Kampo Ranao to give tribute to those who have fallen in the fierce battles during the Marawi siege and gave the ultimate sacrifice to liberate the city.

One of the major highlights of the celebration is the inauguration of the iconic Grand Mosque which President Rodrigo Duterte committed to grace. Also known as the Islamic Center among Marawi residents, the Grand Mosque is one of the Islamic houses of worship that bore the brunt of the five-month battle between government forces and Daesh-inspired terrorists in 2017.

The Raya Madaya I Barangay Complex is also set to be inaugurated. Moreover, 250 permanent housing units in Barangays Kilala and Gadongan will also be awarded to displaced families. (APB/PIA Lanao del Sur)
